MY STORY

About me

I’ve been a carnivorous plant grower for 13 years now! I enjoy every aspect of these plants. From the traps to the rhizome these plants do need special care so if you want to grow these savage plants please follow through very carefully

CARE:

Water: I’ve had the best results with distilled water, with no minerals. I buy mine at Walmart! You don’t want any minerals because those can burn the roots of the plant, any carnivorous plant of course, I can’t use rain water unless I have tested it with a tds water meter. Back to the no minerals part, if you go above 50 ppm you can end up burning the roots and the health of your plant will decline very fast! I have tried tap water and it killed my plant within hours of watering the plant, the plant will start to droop then turn black and deform, and it will show stunted growth patterns. if the traps aren’t forming or turn black before growing the heads all the way, that’s usually a water or pest issue aphids are very common with these plants, so is killing them with tap water, so always use distilled water or if you have an reverse osmosis water system that will work well too! Just keep the water below 50 ppm.

Light: I use yescom red blue led panels from Amazon, a buddy of mine recommended them to me, the white leds will work too only those two types of panels work best I use them for fly traps, nepenthes, sundews and they grow divisions and grow quickly too and get really colorful with deep red traps, I don’t use full sun for a reason, it usually can cause more burn and i don’t like the coloration on the traps with regular sunlight! I like how artificial light makes my plants look and I’m sure you will too! I don’t recommend cfls because they burn out too quickly and they get too hot. So only stick with those light panels and do not buy cheap usb strip grow lights they are not powerful enough for these plants, they need good lighting, also do not buy grow bulbs, trust me when i say this; I have bought many they do not do well! I have killed so many plants with grow bulbs and cfls, look around for red blue led panels or white led panels from yescom, that has been my go to for years, also do NOT put your plants in the window sill to grow, it is not enough light for them they will get deprived with the light that they get from the window even if it Is a very bright window! I don not recommend this at all only artificial light like I said
Humidity: Can be low or high carnivorous plants do not care about humidity unless it is a Sun pitcher, do not use terrariums either those will kill your plants quickly with a slow death if rot and too much heat,
Soil:Long fibered sphagnum moss is amazing for these plants look for better gro orchid moss, I use this stuff all the time or look for super moss that also comes in a huge bale of moss that will last you a good while for a low price, do not use miracle gro products for these plants they spray everything with fertilizer! And I wouldn’t even touch anything that has any minerals or fertilizers added to the moss only use long fibered sphagnum moss for these plants, that’s what I had the best results with! I never tried peat with perlite due to the mess and the poor drainage and poor growth I had with it! I would go with the stuff I mentioned that’s good for your plants
Dormancy: Not required because I have just fed my plants and give them plenty of light and they thrive, people say dormancy is required but I never needed it!
